Landsknechts 1550-1590
The Landsknechts were the famous mercenary soldiers of the Renaissance Wars, noted for their flamboyant and colourful appearance, as well as their suspect loyalties to anything other than cold, hard cash! Mainly of German descent they were universally employed by all sides and would often turn up fighting on both sides of an engagement.
Typically of the period the majority of them formed up in dense blocks of pikemen, but they were receptive to new ideas, such as the use of the Arquebus and they employed a steadily increasing number of supporting firearms.
